case study non ict

March 8, 2010

I took a book out from my college library which was based on legal issues within the media industry. This book was useful as it gave me a widened knowledge of how legal issues really do affect a media product and how important it is to stick by these rules.

Case Study Research (primary research)

March 8, 2010

In order to gain information on legal, ethical, contractual issues by browsing websites on the internet to find out what each individual issue meant and stood for. This helped me out a lot because i was highly unsure of the difference between them.

Legal issues: is between the film maker and the law

Ethical:  between you and society

Contractual:  between you and contracted people e.g your location manager, your staff etc.

What do i Think,, and what will win for Best picture at the Oscars!!!!

February 23, 2010

Due to the fantastic write ups and all of the hype which has lasted for what feels like decades!! I think that Avatar will win for best picture. Now i wacthed Avatar in 3d at the cinema and i really didn’t think that it was that good ):   now call me stupid or any other hurtful words which im sure i’ll cry about for days!!  But i felt that the narrative of Avatar was not spectactular or remotley interesting. The CGI and perfomrace capture was purely amazing and to watch it in 3d was pretty awesome,, but to be honest i wasn’t engaged the whole way through and i wasn’t captivated into the storyline. But unfortunaltley my opinions do not count so despite my thoughts i truly beleive that Avatar will win for best picture at the Oscars.

Mix Tape Research Primary source

January 28, 2010

As part of my research i actually emailed the director of my choosen film Luke Snellin.

Here are the questions that i asked him:

1. What inspired you to create Mixtape?
2. How long did the whole film take to complete?
3. If you don’t mind answering how much did the whole production cost?
4. Where did you get funding from to make Mixtape?
5. How did you feel when you were nominated for a BAFTA?

Here are Luke’s replies:

1. Mixtape was inspired by my childhood musical tastes which stemmed from my Dad’s record collection (mainly rooted in 70′s rock music). It was also greatly inspired by my cinematic tastes and influences including Stanley Kubrick and Wes Anderson.
2. The film took a day to write, a day to shoot and about a week to finish.
3. The budget on the production was around £3,000.
4. I got the funding from a commercial competition I had won which had a cash prize and I also had help from the production company, Luti Media.
5. It felt incredible!

I found quite alot of information on the director and writor of my choosen short film Mixtape.

Luke Snellin who is 23 is the director and writor of Mixtape. The funding for Mixtape was gathered after he won at the Virgin media shorts 2009 ceremony at the BFI. Luke was awarded the grand prize of £30,000 worth of funding towards his next film. The competition which he entered to gain this prize had 2,000 entrys. His film will be shown on over 200 cinema screens across the UK for a year.

Luke is an up and coming writor and director, Mixtape is his second short film.

Mixtape is a short drama which captures innocence of young love and sees a boy create a compliation tape for a girl he likes.

Againest File sharing and Film Piracy 8)

January 12, 2010

File sharing and Film piracy affects a film money intake.

Film studios say piracy on the internet has cost them billions of dollars.

Just because students (or anyone else) have limited finances it dosent justify stealing.

Trading MP3s is like stealing a CD form a store.

The recording industry is having declining sales.

*Record stores

*struggling artists

*industry workers

*and the entire economy loses out due to the decling sales.

Creativity will suffer, because no one would be willing to take the risk of pursuing a music career.

If the industry did not enforce copyrights, the perception would be that stealing is ok.

The threat is greater than previous piracy technology, because distribution is practically free.

Worst Film Ever

November 24, 2009

Worst Film

I am proud to say that “I am Legend” was probably one of the worst films that I have ever subjected myself to. For one I absolutely despise Will Smith, but yet everyone seemed to be fascinated with his appearance within the film. His character didn’t appeal to me physically, mentally or emotionally, and he didn’t engage me in any way shape or form.

The whole film simply bored me from head to toe; I wasn’t inspired, entertained or remotely interested with the film’s narrative what so ever. We have all been subjected to these “last man on earth” films and none of them seem to have their own individual style or unique way of conveying the story. This is what gets to the most as I believe if your going to create a film that everyone has seen hundreds of times before then there’s got to be something special and different about your film. But no, I am legend had no uniqueness or any wow factor to it at all. I think the only part of the film which actually captivated me was when Will’s character Robert Neville’s trusted companion died, let me remind you that this trusted companion was actually a dog called Sam.

If I have one good thing to say about this film which surprisingly I do, it’s that the start of the film actually leads us as the audience to believe that there is going to be some clever revelation which will lead us to an amazing and creative way of revealing the cure. The start actually had me intrigued and somehow curious of how the story was going to unravel and surprise us all. But Oh No “I am Legend” simply ruined it once again.

So if one good thing can come out of this film review then it is to warn those who have not been subjected to this awful and cringe worthy film to not actually waste precious moments of your life which could be spent on something much more worthwhile then please do so.
